The number of students coming to MCC to earn credits during the 2003-04 school year was about 19 times greater than the number of degrees and certificates the college issued during that school year.
But wait a minute – that lopsided ratio does not mean the college has a high drop-out rate or a low graduation rate, said the college registrar, Carol Petersen. She and others say a number of factors limit what the available numbers can say about the graduation rate.
The most recent number of degrees and certificates issued by the college during a school year comes from the 2003-04 school year. In that year, the college had 43,931 students taking for-credit classes – the classes that can earn students degrees and certificates. The college awarded 2,332 degrees and certificates for that school year – it represents about 5 percent of the number of students.
