SB 1331: Threat to education?
Compared with other legislation being reviewed by the Arizona Legislature, Senate Bill 1331 is relatively succinct. However, if passed, the paragraph of 105 words could have a profound impact on college education in Arizona.

The events that lead to the creation of SB 1331 happened in the fall semester at Chandler-Gilbert Community College. William Mullaney, the language and humanities division chair of CGCC, taught a class titled “Currents of American Life,” ENH255.
Mullaney co-teaches the class with another teacher.

 

SB 1331: Pro or con, no wiggle on this fence

The balance between academic freedom and student choice hangs precariously. A Senate bill in the Arizona Legislature may tip the scales toward the student, but against the freedom of professors.
“I’ve always been a proponent of choice,” said Sen. Thayer Verschoor an East Valley legislator. Verschoor is one of 20 sponsors of Senate Bill 1331.

 


Recycle bins getting thrown out with trash

The Environmental Action Club, the Green Group and staff, is teaming up in an effort to expand the Mesa Community College recycling program and create a more ecologically aware campus.
The MCC Green Group met for the first time Jan. 31 and discussed recycling green waste, kitchen grease and plastic.

Aside from the massive amounts of aid the government gives to struggling nations, our own citizens are combining their own private efforts to help people in need.

 


Group helps foreign students feel at home

New international students received a warm welcome in the Kirk Student Center’s Kiva Room on February 6. The International Student Association, a club at MCC that promotes unity and fellowship among international students, hosted the event.
Robert Decker, ISA’s advisor, kicked off the event by explaining to students why the reception was being held.
