Winners of tech competition show skill and knowledge

“A lot of long nights and long weekends” is how Corey Kincaid describes the process involved in winning the inaugural Avnet Tech Games.
The Tech games are an Olympic-like competition between students. The games include such things as testing robots, inventing a technical product, designing digital devices and so on.
Kincaid who works at MCC Red Mountain and takes classes online at Rio Salado College is an equipment computer technician doing hardware installs, troubleshooting and maintaining computer systems, and was a member of the E – Commerce team.
Kincaid and his team won the E-Commerce game but there were many other winners at the games besides Corey and his team, other winners inlcude Karina Aguayo, Chad Baker and Mark Astrauskas from MCC who won the AMD build the faster computer competition, Ken Jackson, Alex Antrez and Christopher Couty from the Maricopa skills center won the build the most innovative computer competition, Bob Danielson, Elliot Cox, Zak Fargo, Jim Lidberg and Peter Haverson from MCC were winners in the defense in depth competition, Anna Thorliksdottir, Shawn Guiney, Will Sylvester and Adam Zolnierczy from Scottsdale Community College were winners in the Multimedia competition, Paula Cheslik, Lucy Corrales and Ismael Becerra from Glendale Community College won the Lego robot maze competition, the invent a technical product competition was won by Arlisa Richardson, Francisco Felix, Matt Newman, Jasmine Pirtle, Corina Prieto and Diana Sarmiento form Estrella Mountain Community College and finally the Digital Device competition was won by Bassam Matar, Brian Cates, Amy Nickolson and John Lindesy.
Some of the prizes that Core and his team won included a $1,000 scholarship which they can use anywhere.
“Which is really nice,” said Kincaid. “I am close to being done with my associates, so it’s a great opportunity.”
