Shock jock Tom Leykis gives male, female listeners a reality check

He’s not very attractive. He’s rude. He’s tactless.
He’s Tom Leykis, and I appreciate the man.
Leykis is someone you either hate or love. A shock jock extraordinaire, he has been on Free FM Radio for a few years now and in the last few months has been airing in the Valley.
His show covers topics from events based on his life (he’s been married and divorced four times), up-to-date news stories, listener e-mails and phone calls with a particular focus on male-female relationships, sex, marriage and dating. A combination of crude and brutal honesty, Leykis is someone who actually has the moxie to speak the truth and preach it to his fellow men.
According to his website, www.blowmeuptom.com, though the show is produced by men and geared towards men, women are encouraged to listen so that they might “learn how guys think”.
His insensitive remarks on air have generated anger from many listeners. More often than not, these angry listeners are women.
Some may call his attitude towards women as bitter, and that may be true. However, for the most part, he’s right on target about the handful of ill-natured women there are in the world.
Leykis’ approach is simple, albeit rude. There are vicious and vindictive women in life, and in the spirit of brotherhood, he is just telling his fellow boys to watch out for golf-digging, selfish women.
What is wrong with that?
Women, we do that too. How often do we backbite our male counterparts? It happens everyday. There is actually a small part of me that sympathizes for men who have been hurt by spiteful women.
When women console their BFF- “best friend forever”- who was dumped by her boyfriend, women are quick to call him the nastiest of names and have a bashing free-for-all. There’s nothing wrong if men do that too. Leykis’ approach is just perpetuating that idea. In spite of his crass and obnoxious disposition, his points are matter-of-fact and refreshing.
For example, callers often ask Leykis’ advice about gold-digging women. The answer? Stay away from them and wise up. Leykis encourages men to find women who are independent and self-respecting.
It’s simple and it’s common sense!
Women should listen because it gives us the chance to see how most men really view us, thereby giving us the opportunity to better spot those creeps and stay away from them. It’s given me a third-eye view as to how degrading men can be towards women and how to better recognize those jerks. Listening to his show gives women the chance to see how men think, act and feel, giving us a better opportunity to find the few good men left out there in the world.
Despite his offensive mannerisms, this man knows what he is doing. He is completely aware that his opinions that will shock and insult, and that it makes great radio.
I commend the fact that he doesn’t sugarcoat the hard and sometimes ugly truth about some women. They do exist as do shady men, and he is reminding us of that. That’s the real world. We should take heed of his raw and unfiltered honesty. It’s a service to those who are naive.
There are things that do need to be addressed, such as as women should be cautious of dubious men and vice versa. Being politically incorrect is a jolt that we need to look at things from the other side.
Some people tell it how it might be. Leykis tells it how it is.
