Transfer Services help transition to universities

MCC students interested in making the change to a four year university have the opportunity to make informed decisions through Transfer Services.
Included in the services that Transfer Services offer are transcript evaluation, education planning and GPA calculation. This helps students pick the proper classes to transfer to a university.
“We assist students who are interested in moving on to a university in helping them pick classes and making sure credits are transferable,” said Sarah McCarthy, a Transfer Advisor.
Transfer advisors are available to assist students in things like choosing coursework, and potential graduation and transfer dates.
MCC transfer advisors are able to give advice about Arizona public universities, Brigham Young University, and schools who have established articulation agreements with MCC.
If the school a student would like to attend does not have an articulation agreement with MCC, students will need to contact that school’s admissions office directly.
Those who are seeking to transfer to an out-of-state school or are looking for schools with specific criteria such as athletics or special programs are also welcomed to seek assistance.
For students who are interested in transferring to Arizona State University, University of Arizona and Northern Arizona University, the transfer services recommends for students to apply one year in advance. Students are advised to call the transfer center ahead of time to make an appointment to see an advisor, as appointments meetings run thirty minutes long.
“Students come in all throughout the year. Mainly in January and the end of July and August are the worst times to come in because that’s when everyone is rushing to meet with an advisor,” McCarthy said.
An important tool for transferring students is the Course Applicability System, a statewide, online, interactive advising tool that provides information on courses, course equivalencies, and program requirements at Arizona colleges and universities.
Another significant item available for students is a major check sheet. The check sheet is determined by the student’s major, catalog year, and transfer school.
MCC Transfer Services has university applications, catalogs, view books, transfer scholarships, college guidebooks, and program information on file for student use. Students are encouraged to use these resources.
Transfer Services is open and available to students from Monday to Thursday, 8 a.m.-8 p.m., and Friday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. in building 38. To make an appointment, call 461-7704.
