FEATURESTrendy clothing with high prices not unusual
Coach, Chanel, Louis Vouitton, and Christian Dior are only a few of the designer name brands that are seen roaming at MCC and other campuses.
One of the first high-end fashion designers was Coco Chanel. Her timeless couture dates all the way back to World War I when she popularized boyish-style sweaters and jersey dresses.
Chanel was the first designer ever to make high fashion pants for women.
High-end name brand designers and fashion in itself, has come a long way since then.
It is not unusual anymore for someone who does not make millions to carry around a three thousand dollar Louis bag.
Bonny Fainkujen expresses her love for her personal favorites.
“I got my Louis bag as sort of a gift. My friend owed me a bunch of money and she knew I wanted this bag so she went the extra mile and bought it for me,” Fainkujen said. Her Louis is not the only name brand item she owns.
“I have two pairs of Coach shoes, one pair of Burberry shoes, two different pairs of Chanel and one pair of Versace sunglasses, a Louis Vouitton scarf, a couple of Coach bags and many pairs of name brand jeans,” Fainkujen said.
MCC student Adam Rice gave his take on why women in particular wear expensive clothing.
“I think that most females are in competition with each other,” Rice said.
“I hope that they don’t buy $1,000 purses because they think it impresses the men. I could care less whether my girlfriend had a ten dollar bag from Target or a $600 bag from Coach. I just think that women are always trying to one up each other.”
MCC student Joe Smaltz had a familiar opinion.
“When I see a girl at a bar with an expensive name brand bag, all I think is that they must be high maintenance and I stay as far away as I can,” Smaltz said.
Sometimes there is more to buying luxurious products than the glitz and glamour that comes with it.
“I would not be caught dead buying a name brand bag at full cost,” said Amanda Francisco. “I love Coach products but I think that they are obviously way over priced. I find all of my goodies on ebay.com for less than half of the price!”
Francisco said she would prefer a name brand item over one from a more commercial retailer.
“I just prefer to have things that are of good quality. No, I will not pay thousands of dollars to have nice things, but if I can find them at half of their original price than why not,” Francisco said.
Fainkujen has a different outlook on purchasing at full price.
“I work hard for my money and every name brand article that I own whether it be a keychain or a pair of shoes,” said Fainkujen.
“I bought it myself and that’s something I can be proud of!”
