Incident Log

Sept. 7
Mesa Police were called to a report of a domestic violence assult that occurred off-campus. The parties had come to the College Safety office to make the report. The female participant was arrested and booked at Mesa PD.

Sept. 9
A minor non-injury hit and run accident occurred in lot J, west of the SC building. License plate information was obtained on the offending vehicle and follow up investigation is being conducted by a campus police officer.

Campus police officers responded to the library on a report of two subjects that appeared to be intoxicated. The two female students were located in the Jazzland Cafe. The subjects were uncooperative with the officers, but investigation revealed that they had over-medicated themselves with a perscription painkiller. The subjects were checked by Mesa Fire Department paramedics and were released to family members. A report on the incident was forwarded to the Dean of Student Services.

Sept. 10
A minor non-injury motor vehicle collision occured in lot C, near the stadium, when a teenage non-student being taught to drive by her father struck the parked car of a student. Information was exchanged between the owners.

Sept. 11
An apparently intoxicated female drove her vehicle west on Hospital Drive from the M&O building at a high rate of speed and struck the locked gate near the gated employee lot. The gate was undamaged but the vehicle sustained moderate damage to the front end. The driver fled the scene and the investigation is continuing.

Sept. 12
A minor non-injury motor vehicle accident between two students occured in lot J. Information was exchanged between the drivers.

A student reported that person(s) unknown broke into his maroon 1996 Mazda pick-up while it was parked in lot C and stole his in-dash stereo. Entry was made through the rear sliding window.

Sept. 13
A student reported that person(s) unknown were able to steal his bicycle by removing the cable lock as the bike was parked west of the HIC Center. A witness was able to provide a description of a possible suspect.

Spotlight

October to feature faculty art

The Mesa Community College Art Department will host The Art Faculty Show 2005, Oct. 3-13, in the Kirk Student Center Navajo Room.
An opening reception will be held in the Navajo Room Oct. 5, from 6-8 p.m.
The purpose of the reception is to give students and community members an opportunity to discuss the artwork on display, as well as to mingle with the artists.
Mediums that will be featured are painting, drawing, photography, ceramics, sculpture, printmaking, and digital media. For more information, call the MCC Art Department at (480) 480-461-7524.

Hispanic Heritage Month
Mesa Community College will be honoring Hispanic Heritage month with a showing of the movie “Without a Trace” on Sept. 28, from noon to 3 p.m. in the Navajo room located in the Kirk Center. For more information on this event, contact the office of mulicultural services at (480) 461-7289.

Beyond the Barriers
There will be a student forum on cultural tolerance at MCC in the library entitled Beyond the Barriers on Oct. 4, at noon in room LB145. All students and faculty are welcome to come.

Poetry Jam
On Oct. 12 at noon there will be a Poetry Jam near the Jazzland Cafe at the Red Mountain Campus. The same event will take place on the Southern and Dobson campus at noon near Grounds for Thought.

Calling all songwriters
MCC’s Music Business Program in a partnership with Into the Bean will be hosting an event entitled Songwriters Night.
This event will be held every fourth friday of the month starting with the first one on Sept. 30 at 7 p.m. at the Into the Bean Coffee House at 1710 W. Southern Ave., across from MCC between Dobson and Longmore Rd.

Domestic Violence
October is Domestic Violence Awareness month. In observance MCC will be holding a candlelight vigil on Oct. 3 at the Southern and Dobson campus in front of the clocktower from 7 to 9 p.m. All students are invited and strongly encouraged to come in the fight to prevent domestic violence. A Time for Healing
A series of workshops will be held Oct. 4 through Oct. 7 entitled, “A Time for Healing” which will address issues relating to teen, adult, and family violence.
-Oct. 4 in the Maricopa room from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
-Oct. 5 in the Kiva room from noon to 1:30 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.
-Oct. 6 in the Maricopa room from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
-Oct. 7 in the Kiva room from noon to 1:30 p.m.

An Interview Skills Workshop will be held on Sept. 28 from noon to 1 p.m. and from 6-7 p.m. in the Resource Center in the Career and Re-Entry Services Office.
