Incident Log

Sept. 15
A College Safety officer discovered numerous used and unused cartridges of nitrous oxide and drug paraphernalia in parking lot D, south of the softball field. No suspect(s) are known. The items were confiscated and will be destroyed.

An employee reported that her vehicle had been stolen from lot B. It was determined that the car had been removed from the lot in error by a tow company. A campus police officer contacted the tow truck driver as he returned the car and ran a routine warrant check. The driver had an outstanding arrest warrent and was taken into custody. He was later turned over to Tempe PD and booked on their original charge of theft.

Sept. 21
Red Mountain College Safety officers investigated a non-injury hit and run accident the previous day. No enforcement action was taken.

Sept. 22
An employee reported that a known subject had threatened to come onto campus and assault him. The threat is related to an on-going civil dispute with an ex-girlfriend.

A employee reported that two students were involved in possible sexual activity in the men’s LS second floor restroom. Campus police officers arrived and interrupted the students who were engaged in consensual sexual activity. A report on the incident was forwarded to the Dean of Student Services.

A campus police officer responded to the library on a report of a student being harassed by three subjects. Investigation revealed that the situation is related to a previous civil dispute involving the student an ex-roommate and that no crime had occurred on campus. Two of the three subjects involved have been identified as MCC students. A report on the incident was forwarded to the Dean of Student Services.

Sept. 23
College Safety officers responded to the center courtyard area on a report of a disturbance. Investigation revealed that a student had alleged that two other students were making comments of a sexual nature to her. A report on the incident was forwarded to the Dean of Student Services.

Sept. 23
An employee reported that the suspect that had threatened him the previous day was on campus with the employee’s ex-girlfriend. The subject was contacted by a campus police officers and told to leave campus. The ex-girlfriend was served with an order of protection that had been obtained by the employee.

Sept. 26
An employee was involved in a minor non-injury utility cart accident with another parked cart next to the maintenance building.

An employee was slightly injured when he struck an angled pillar under the stadium while operating a utility cart. The cart sustained substantial damage.

 

Spotlight

United Way raises needed funds

The MCC United Way Campaign is still going strong with activities continuously taking place aiding in the process of raising money for charities. “So far we have raised a net total of about $11,800, a portion of about $2,800 will go into a scholorship fund which will go to the four students who are attending MCC and were directly affected by Katrina,” Executive Assistant to the President Janet Felton said who is in charge of organizing the events. There will be a breakfast at the Red Mountain campus on Oct. 13 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Tickets can be bought in advance or at the door for $5. A pizza and salad dinner will be held at the Brown and Country Club facility on Oct. 19 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tickets will be sold in advance and at the door for $5.On Oct. 26 there will be a lunch at the downtown facility at the Atrium from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tickets will be on sale for $5.A Halloween Happy Hour will take place at the Southern and Dobson campus in the Zuni Room from 3 to 5 p.m. on Oct. 27. On-Campus Events


Battle of the Bands
There will be a battle of the bands concert on the Southern and Dobson campus from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Oct. 18 and on the Red Mountain Campus on Oct. 19. The winner of the event will play at the Student BBQ on Homecoming day.

Student BBQ
From 5 to 6:30 p.m. there will be a tailgate party in the parking lot by the football stadium before the football game takes place. Food and drinks will be provided for a very low price. All students and alumni are encouraged to come and participate in this exciting event.

Students vs. staff
The faculty members will be taking on MCC students in a game of water balloon volleyball on the track of the football stadium from 6 to 6:40 p.m. on Oct. 22. All students and staff should come and participate in this event.

Alcohol addiction
On Oct. 13 at 9:15 a.m. in SC 20 there will be a class titled “The facts about Alcohol and other Drugs, including Sudden Sniffing Death Syndrome.”
The presenter will be Stephanie Kreiling. Students and staff can come and listen to information regarding this topic as well as other drug and alcohol-related issues.

Student meeting

Drug abuse lecture
“Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse But Were Afraid To Ask In A Crowd” is the title of a discussion that will take place on Oct. 14 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in EF 1N.
Peervention volunteers, Christa Adams, and Dorys Norwood will be there to discuss and answer any and call questions about alcohol and other drug abuse.

Dialogue day
On Oct. 20 there will be a Dialogue Day in the Kiva Room from noon to 1:30 p.m. This discussion is for faculty members only. For more information, call (480) 461-7758.

Empty Bowls
On Oct. 19 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Navajo Room the annual Mesa Empty Bowl benefit will take place.
All of the proceeds will benefit Paz de Cristo.
More than 2,000 handmade ceramic bowls will be on sale which will then be filled with a serving of soup, alongside a piece of bread and water.
A silent auction will also take place which will feature other ceramics which were created and signed by local artists.
Each bowl is ten dollars which does include the cost of the meal.
