Dancers showcase talent

The MCC Dance Company presented, “Poppins, Pan and Potter,” as part of their yearly formal dance concert tradition.
The production ran Nov. 3-4 in the Theatre Outback.
Tina Rangel, program director and choreographer, said that the two-night event was well received by its audience. The cast members were also pleased with the large opening night turnout.
Each semester the dance company presents a formal and informal dance concert, with the fall dance concert being the formal one of the semester, Rangerl said.
The production is not only performed by MCC students, but by community members and alumni, as well.
The dancers who took part in the production are mainly members of the MCC Dance Company.
Rangel said that there was something for everybody to enjoy. “There were all types of music and dance. People enjoyed it because there was a mix.”
The music and dance performances included ballet, tap, hip hop, jazz, and modern dance.
The performances were choreographed by a collaboration of students, dance instructors, and alumni. This allowed cast members to showcase diverse talents and styles of dance.
In addition, the attractive costumes and lighting added to the more formal event.
The informal dance concert takes place at the end of the school year. Rangel explained that this concert has a larger and more diverse group of dancers.
Unlike the formal concert, the informal event is open to all dance students on campus. This gives everyone the opportunity to showcase the skills that they learn during the year.
Rangel said that in addition to the two main events on campus, the dance company is often invited to perform in other off campus events. Local and college dance companies keep the MCC Dance Company thoughout the semester.
MCC offers both beginner and advance dance courses on campus. The classes are open to all students and are of diverse genres.
Auditions are open to anyone who would like to be a part of the production.
