Nov. 11
College Safety investigated an on-going domestic violence situation between a student and her ex-husband. The male has come onto campus several times.Further questioning revealed he only wanted to know where the remote was.

Three students were contacted by a campus police officer regarding complaints that they were setting off fireworks. The students were not cooperative and a box of fireworks was seized from one of them

Nov. 16
A campus police officer investigated a report that two student workers had money stolen from their unattended wallets in the Advisement area.
Money stolen from unattended wallets? Go figure.
Investigation continues.

A campus police officer responded to a subject in parking lot A, who disturbed patrons in the library. The subject was intoxicated Who gets drunk and goes to a library? He was escorted off campus.

Another student who left her purse in an SC classroom returned to find the purse was not there. No suspect(s) are known. Also missing, the girl’s common sense to not leave her purse.

Nov. 18
A custodian reported that a vending machine in the womens BA restroom was forced open and a small amount of money was taken. No suspect(s) are known.

A student reported his blue and white GT mountain bike stolen from the EF bike rack. The bike had a cable lock, but still was stolen.
Reviewing security video revealed that at 1:53 p.m. a white male, in his early 20s, wearing a black ball cap, a black AC/DC t-shirt and dark pants took the victim’s bike.

Nov. 20
The same drunken man who harrassed people in the library Nov. 16 was at it again.
After disturbing students and employees on the second floor of the library he was escorted from the campus and warned he would be arrested if he returned.

Vending machines in womens bathrooms are becoming popular targets. Red Mountain College Saftey reported vending machines were forced open and money was stolen from the second floor Palo Verde restroom.

Nov. 21
A student reported to College Safety that another student had heinously stolen an item from the cafeteria. During an intense investigation and review of the video from the cafeteria camera it was discovered that the student had indeed taken an item without paying. A copy of the report was sent to the Dean of Student Services.

A faculty member complained of two people aggressively soliciting students for magazine subscriptions near the AD building. The subjects sales techniques were so aggressive they were found and told by a campus police officer to stay off campus.

A student reported that her 1994 white Nissan Sentra was stolen from lot C, near the stadium. A video tape review showed the victim’s car leaving the lot at 6:39 p.m. Authorities believe the car was not driving itself. Investigation continues.

Spotlight

Red Mountain hosts Empty Bowls

MCC at Red Mountain will participate for the first time in an Empty Bowls event. The event will commemorate World Hunger Day on Thursday, Dec. 8, 2005. Meals will be served between 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The meals will be served in ceramic bowls donated by various artists. Meals will cost $10. The event is open to the public. The meals will be simple, consisting of bread, water, and soup. The meals will be simple to remind participants of hunger world wide. After eating, participants will be able to keep the bowls they ate from to serve as a constant symbol of world hunger. All proceeds from the event will be donated to Paz de Cristo, an organization that will use the proceeds to feed local less fortunate people. Paz de Cristo will also be providing the soup that will be served. Empty Bowls is a national event that started in 1990 in Michigan. An art teacher helped students hold a fundraising event to support a food drive. Students made ceramic bowls and served simple meals. After, the participants took the bowls home. During the following years the event grew in size. Now, it is a nationwide event to support food banks, soup kitchens, and any other organization that fights hunger. Empty Bowls has raised millions of dollars since 1990 to fight hunger around the world.


On-Campus Events


ASU East Visit

ASU East College of Education will have a visiting adviser Dec. 12 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. The adviser will be available for 30 minute appointments with students interested in pursuing careers in education. Students who would like to set an appointment with the adviser can do so by going to the Transfer Services office in building 38 or by calling (480) 461-7452.

School of social work
On Dec. 5 between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. an adviser from the ASU School of Social Work will be available for appointements with students. Students interested in meeting with the adviser have to make appointments through the Transfer Service office. They can also call to make the appointment.(480) 461-7452.

Guitar concert
A guitar concert will be held Dec. 7 in the room MU-3 at 7:30 p.m. Dan Davis is the supervising instructor. For more information contact Dan Davis at (480) 461-7572.

Nursing school adviser
The ASU College of Nursing will have advisers visiting MCC Dec. 6, 13, and 20. The advisers will be on campus between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. All 30 minute appointments will be held in the Transfer Services office. Advisers will be answering questions to help guide students pursuing nursing. Appointments can be set by going to the front desk in the Transfer Service office or by calling (480) 461-7452

Messiah choir performance
The Combined Choir of MCC will be performing with Mesa Symphony Saturday, Dec. 17. The performance will be held at the new Mesa Arts Center in downtown Mesa. The performance will begin at 7:30 p.m.
Dr. Glenn Bennett, Director of Choral Activities at MCC, will conduct the choir and symphony as they perform selected pieces from Handel’s Messiah.
Tickets range between $15-$25 and can be purchased through the Mesa Symphony Orchestra Office or online at www.mesaartscenter.com.
