Dec. 16
Counterfeit bill in circulation
A cashier received a ten dollar bill from a student to pay a library fine that seemed suspicious and notified College Safety. An investigation determined the bill to be counterfeit. The bill as well as a copy of the investigation was sent to the US Secret Service.

Employee harassment
A campus officer began a harassment investigation involving two employees. The report was given to the department supervisor.

Dec. 29
Employees at it again
A second harassment report was called in to College Safety involving the same employees of the incident on Jan. 16. The investigation continues.

Dec. 30
Break in effort failed
Unknown person(s) made an unsuccessful attempt at cutting a lock on a storage unit on the SC building. The investigation continues.

Jan. 1
Campus hit twice by theft
At 2:05 a.m. College Safety officers spotted a male suspect breaking into a storage closet at Acacia Village at the Red Mountain campus on the CCTV surveillance system. Because no campus police officer was on duty, the officers notified Mesa PD. However by the time a Mesa officer arrived, the suspect managed to flee the scene with property from the closet.

At 6 a.m. there was another sighting of a male suspect breaking into a gate at the same location on the CCTV surveillance system. The campus police responded and arrived at the same time a Mesa police officer arrived on the scene. The suspect was captured while struggling to force open a soda machine. He was arrested for charges of burglary.

During this time, there was need for medical assistance concerning an employee, but no medical transport was necessary.

Jan. 10
Employee haults car theft
An employee at the Country Club and Brown Campus witnessed an unidentified male breaking into a vehicle in the parking lot outside his office window. Mesa Police were notified immediately. The suspect fled the scene in a white S.UV. before the police arrived. The ignition and steering column was damaged in the suspects effort to steal the vehicle.

Spotlight

Some things just look better leaving

MCC at Red Mountain will be hosting the play Some Things Just Look Better Leaving. The comedy debuted last July at the Southern and Dobson campus and is back for its encore performance. The play tells a story of single men and women in their twenties struggling in the game of romance. While they are at a point in life where they know what they want, they cannot keep their eye on the target. James decides to move away to get a fresh start but the women around him make his decisions difficult. Some Things Just Look Better Leaving gets the audience laughing about the complexities of life, love and friendship. This is an original play by Jeff Slaker and directed by Bryanna Tauscher. Jeff, Bryanna and many cast members are MCC Alumni. The production will be a scholarship fundraiser. Show times are Jan. 19 and 20 at 7:30 in the Community Room. On-Campus Events

Register to give blood
United Blood Services will be in the MCC Kirk Student Center, January 18 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. They will be registering those who would like to participate in future blood drives. This is an effort by Union Blood Services to avoid overstocking in blood donations. Those who register prior to a blood drive get priority, while walk-ins may be turned away.

MECHA meeting
There will be a MECHA meeting, January 18. The engagement will be held in the Kirk Student Center in the Kiva Room between 7 and 8:30 p.m. For more information contact Miguel Zarate at 480-784-7743.

NAU distance learning
NAU will have a table with information on their distance learning program. The table will be located in the Kirk Student Center, January 19 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.. Contact Sara McCarthy in transfer services for more information at 480-461-7548.

Kid’s car seat check
The Mesa Fire Department will be at lot 1, the southwest parking lot at the Southern and Dobson campus on January 21. Parents and guardians may take their kid’s car seats and have the experts inspect them for safety and proper function. Students as well as members of the community are welcome to take advantage of this service from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Table talk
The Center for Global Tolerance and Engagement is sponsoring a tutorial titled China Inside Out on, January 26. Students, faculty as well as classes are encouraged to come. The event takes place in the library room 145 at 1:30 to 2:45 p.m.

Applications accepted
The Mesa Fire Department/Mesa Community College Connector Program is accepting applications from January 30 to February 10. Those interested would become a connector, a volunteer who assists in various non-emergency duties including fire crew support, crisis support, social service referrals and transportation.
Advantages of volunteering are endless. Connectors gain first- hand knowledge of fire department operations as well as social services and community involvement. Other advantages may include peer support and college credit. Application packets may be requested at 480- 644- 5042 or downloaded at www.cityofmesa.org/fire.

Lecture on sleep loss
There will be a psychology lecture titled “Walking up to the High Price of Sleep Loss” on Feb. 1. Dr. Janet Tatman will cover the stages of sleep, sleep disorders and their treatments. Debut performance
The unveiling “Acardius” will be held on, February 3 and 4 from 7:30 to 10 p.m. in the Black Box Theatre TH2 at Theater Outback. This is an original piece written by MCC alumnus, Eric Holmes and directed by Jeff Slaker.
This is a dark comedy about a married couple who frequently fight and their butler. The story comically takes the audience to a dramatic climax and through a love trap. This play is for mature audiences. Limited seats are available and tickets cost $10. For ticket information contact 461-7170.


Off-Campus Events

Open mike nights
There are open mike nights every Monday at Into the Bean, a hip coffee shop across from MCC at Southern and Dobson. Musicians and poets alike are welcome from 7 to 9 p.m. This makes for a great night out. For more information contact 890-0579 or visit www.intothebean.com.

Rowing classes
Scottsdale Community College has a one credit rowing class REC150AA section 3005. This class will meet between Feb. 7 and March 9 on from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Rio Salado Operations Center near Tempe Town Lake. There is an $85 fee in addition to the tuition for the one credit, but all equipment is included.
