ASMCC’s new officers hope for student unity

After no candidates were elected at the end of the 2005-2006 school year, students who were interested in ASMCC government applied for positions and were appointed by a student government committee, which is considered a second election according to new Vice President Jennifer Chilcoat.

Elected by the student committee into ASMCC’s executive governing board for President was Faiana Scott, Jennifer Chilcoat as Vice President, Lance Giles as Vice President of Communications and Maria Marquez as Vice President of Fiscal Affairs.

One of the first activities ASMCC has planned for MCC is to welcome back new and returning students Welcome Week for students during the first week of school including free food and fun. ASMCC’s new executive board will be at the Red Mountain campus on Tuesday, Aug. 22 from 10am to 2pm and on Wednesday, Aug. 23 from 10am to 2pm. The ASMCC encourages all students to stop by.

On Tuesday, Aug. 29, ASMCC will have their first senate meeting in the V Con Room across from the media services in the Elsner Library.

The new ASMCC board hopes to boost unity in MCC students and see more student involvement with all that MCC has to offer at both campuses.

My vision is to get campus unity. If more students get involved with student life they’ll be more aware of what clubs and events are going on and we’ll have a more active student life,” Chilcoat said.
