High rankings for MCC track and field throwers

The Mesa track and field team looks to be very competitive this season again, thanks in large part to the effort of several strong throwers who are highly ranked going into the season.

Zack Lloyd is a strong Mesa thrower is currently ranked 1st in the region in shot put.

Rashaud Scott, who will be a Kentucky Wildcat next season, is currently ranked 2nd in the shot put and 1st in the 35 lb. weight throw, which was a new event introduced last season. Scott is also one of the top-ranked discus throwers.
Curtis Durocher is also strong in the new event, ranked 4th in the 35 lb. weight throw.

Nicole Lloyd on the lady’s side is ranked 2nd in the shot put and 2nd in the 20 lb. weight throw.

As in past seasons, MCC will rely heavily on their strong throwers to help them perform well in meets.

Coach Selmer Olsen, who has a consistently had a solid group of throwers feels his team will be highly competitive.

The strong group of hurlers will take the track on Feb. 23, as MCC hosts an ACCAC meet at 3 p.m. The Thunderbirds will be competing against Scottsdale, Paradise Valley and Phoenix College.

Another chance for fans to catch the T-birds on their home track will come April 13 when the Thunderbirds host the annual Mesa Classic, a prestigious event which brings in numerous Division I teams.
