Marriage and divorce rates will not affect me
It is absolutely distressing that America has the highest divorce rates among all industrialized nations. It scares me that I have a 50 percentchance of getting divorced; but I will not let that discourage me. I am going to be optimistic and still have high hopes of having a successful marriage someday.
If other people have had and continue to have successful marriages, I can too. I only want to get married once and I am determined to make that happen.
On the other hand, there are a lot of other people in America who are the exact opposite of me. They let other people’s experiences discourage them from experiencing their own.
Many people are afraid to commit so they don’t get married at all. They can almost experience what it is like to be married without signing the contract.
Today, no one has to get married to have sex. It is more acceptable to live with a significant other before marriage. And one can avoid the financial risks of a divorce.
I believe one of the reasons why divorce rates are so high in America is because a lot of people are marrying for the wrong reasons.
On TV, we have heard about celebrities who get married just because and then divorce less than a month later.
People don’t take marriages as seriously as they used to. Marriage is a big deal and I’m not sure why people don’t see that. It’s best to make sure you truly know the person you want to marry before tying the knot.
I believe there are some people who see divorce as an easy way out instead of working out their problems that could be really minor. Today, divorces are almost comparable to breaking up with a boyfriend or girlfriend. To me, a divorce should be the absolute last alternative. If people would try and stick it out for a few years to see if things get better, maybe our divorce rate wouldn’t be so high. At least they can say they tried to make it work before throwing in the towel.
