Thunderbird soccer teams off to a quick start
It is still very early in the year, but both the men’s and women’s soccer teams are off to a very good start.
The women’s soccer team, under coach Tim Bartmettler has started the season at 3-0. The team has won games in exciting fashion, scoring 14 goals in their three victories.
“It’s very exciting to watch right now,” says Bartmettler, “I am pleased with how we are putting goals away.”
The coach also says he is impressed with how everyone on the team has stepped up.
“There isn’t any one big surprise on the team this year,” the coach said, “all members of the team have really stood out.”
Bartmettler was quick to point out that while his team has started off very well, it is still very early in the year, and the team needs to work on consistency.
“When we are playing good, we are really good, but we are a little too streaky right now. We need to stay consistent.”The team has set a team goal of winning the ACCAC championship as well as making it back to nationals.
On the men’s side, the start of the season has looked promising as well. The men’s team has started with a record of 3-1.
“So far we look pretty good,” says head coach Sal Galvano, “we seem to be improving every game.”
While it is still very early in the year the coaching staff is pleased with the way the team is shaping out.
“We still have a lot of glitches to work out,” Galvano said, who is in his first season as coach at MCC after coaching at Cedar Valley College in Dallas, Texas, “but overall I think we look promising.”
The Thunderbirds have been led in the early going by freshman Nick Auditore who is a transfer student from Midwest State in Texas. Auditore has been sensational hrough the first four contests racking up seven goals and one assist. He currently leads the ACCAC in scoring.
The men’s side have a goal of going undefeated at home, and like the women hope to finish at the top of the ACCAC. Both teams play their next game at home on Saturday, September 16th against Chandler. Men start at 4:30, women begin at 7:00.
