Cycle rider loses control; injuries require airlifting

A motorcyclist was seriously injured in a crash on Power Road. in front of the Red Mountain campus Sept. 6.

Mesa Police said the motorcyclist was headed south on Power Road, just past Hermosa Vista, when he lost control and crashed.

“He was then thrown over the median and into the northbound lanes,” police said. The man was not struck by the oncoming vehicles.

“He was not wearing a helmet and was taken by medical air transport to a nearby hospital suffering from head trauma,” an officer at the scene said.

Although police said the man lost control of the motorcycle for an undetermined reason, one eyewitness said the accident was caused by another driver.

The witness, who asked to remain anonymous, said, “A woman in another car swerved over to the right of me and then cut back to the center lane in front of the man on the motorcycle.

“The bike couldn’t stop,” she continued. “He lost control and then rolled into oncoming traffic.”

A student at the Red Mountain campus admitted involvement but declined to give further information.
