Legend's View:
Successful futures becoming difficult to attain
If there was a dollar for every time “I do not know what I am doing with my life” was said among our generation or the college attending demographic, the national debt would not exist.
It would be paid off by the millions of dollars flowing in from the confusion which is “our future”.
It seems that more and more people are unsure of what sort of career that they see in their future and what where they want their life to be.
Yet in defense of the unsure, there is not too much security in the future. Jobs that were once popular are still popular, but do not have a good chance at being attained. New jobs are constantly being formed because of our ever-changing country and its growing knowledge.
But what does that mean for the college attending? How does that change the common practice of going through college with intent of getting a job after? Why invest all your time and money in an education, when there is not too much of a guarantee that you will be even somewhat successful?
Nowadays, one can be laid off of few times during their lifetime. The times when one would retire from the same job they have had all their life is seems to be ancient history. Whatever happened to having the same job a good amount of your life and then retiring nicely with your family raised wonderfully and a home in your possession?
Owning a home, now that is a different story, sadly. It seems that the “Leave it to Beaver” lifestyle that we once tried to attain at least minimally is so far impossible.
So with all these changes with our world, new views on how a life should be lived and what “normal” is, what is worth investing time, money, effort and young adult years in?
The debate on whether the “Leave it to Beaver” lifestyle was ever on someone’s to do list is a different story, right now, people are going to college, paying for college and trying to make a life for themselves all the same as the generation that came before them.
But if the job market, the cost of living, and lifestyles are in the process of transition, where is the future? What is the future?
Should a career now be a job with benefits, a retirement plan and something that you are kind of good at, instead of something that you actually enjoy?
A future now needs to include more than ever, more thought.
Without more thought, more money will be spent, more time will be wasted and more effort, blood, sweat and tears will arise. Thought for a future and planning for a future is better done now than later.
Minds are young, fresh and hopefully have more passion about the things that bring you joy. “I don’t know what I’m doing with my life” is okay, because we all want to make good decisions.
But keep in mind that the world is changing, as it always will.
Owning a home is harder, finding a good job that can last awhile with security is rare, college and education is becoming necessary, and skills and knowledge are essential.
