Flu and Pneumonia Vaccinations

Studies from the Center for Disease Control show that the flu season runs from October through March. The CDC recommends people in high risk groups to get flu shots, which will be available locally on Tuesday, Oct. 17 at the YMCA in Mesa.

The flu vaccine is safe and with reasonable precautions, is considered the primary method for preventing hospitalization and death, influenza-related respiratory illness, physician visits related to flu and decreasing missed work days.

The pneumonia vaccine does not cause you to become sick with pneumonia. Side effects of the vaccine are mild and at most, include temporary redness and soreness at the injection sight, fever, and muscle pain.

People at high risk for the flu and pneumonia:

▪ Children ages 6 months to 18-years-old
▪ People ages 65 years and older
▪ Residents of long-term care facilities
▪ People who have long-term health problems
▪ People with a weakened immune system

Flu and pneumonia vaccinations will be available on Tuesday, Oct. 17, at the YMCA on N. Mesa Drive in Mesa.
