Legend's View:

Where has student leadership gone?

“The students of Mesa Community College unite to serve student interest through building a proactive student body.”

According to the Associated Students of Mesa Community College’s constitution, that is the mission of ASMCC.

Is this an empty promise? Do they have something to hide? What is going on with the student government?

If only we knew the answers to those questions.

For the last month and a half, the Mesa Legend has tried to no avail to get in contact with ASMCC.

As the student paper, the Mesa Legend strives to report news worthy stories pertinent to the students. How can that duty be fulfilled when they do not answer or return phone calls, messages and personal visits to their office?

It is disappointing when one of the strongest organizations on campus cannot hold their promise nor make effort to reach out. Granted, all students are busy, especially those who are involved with school clubs and organizations.

The students of MCC are obligated to receive information from their student government. However, a source must be involved to help channel this information. The Mesa Legend serves as one of those sources.

Flyers and website information do not suffice.

Before the fall 2006 semester began, two ASMCC members attended a meeting of the Mesa Legend to help open up the lines of communication.

Thus far, ASMCC has yet to fulfill their part of the effort to keep in touch with the Mesa Legend.
It is comparative to their Article II, Section 2 statement in the ASMCC constitution:

“Develop communication with all enrolled students to provide them with pertinent information and services.”

Communication is key to any relationship. It takes effort and time from both parties to make that relationship work.

This is the only means of communication between students and organizations. Where are you ASMCC?
Let’s talk.
