Host of MCC athletes earn All-Region honors
There were many great perfomances this fall season by MCC athletes, a few of which were good enough to warrant NJCAA Region 1 honors.
In women’s soccer freshman forward Krista Mirabelli, who has been solid all season for the national tournament bound Thunderbirds, earned first team recognition.
Mirabelli finished second in the league in scoring during the regular season with 12 goals and eight assists.
Also making the first team with Mirabelli were teammates Andrea Evans and Celene Molera. Evans was fourth in the league in scoring with eight goals and five assists, and scored the lone goal in MCC’s ACCAC Championship win over Paradise Valley.
olera, a Freshman from Buena High School, led the Thunderbirds with eight assists during the regular season.
Rochelle Bush and Cammi Kellar recieved honorable mention honors. Bush had two goals and two assists on the year, while Kellar scored four goals with five assists, as well as a game-winning overtime goal in the team’s District Championship game over Cisco Junior College.
On the men’s side of the ball Freshman Nick Auditore led the ACCAC in scoring with an astounding 20 goals as well as six assists. Auditore led the T-birds to the second round of the playoffs and an overall record of 11-10.
Reid Schmitt of the men’s team was named to the second team All-Region. Schmitt was key to Thunderbirds scoring attack this season with 12 assists.
Volleyball players Jill Riding, Rayna Downey, and Nicole Serrano were also nominated by their coach Ku Sainas to the All-Region teams.
