Activities for the holiday lull
The holiday season has already bounded in and in a few short weeks, the semester will come to an end. With all this extra time on student’s hands, there may be some question as to what there is to do over the holiday break.
For those seeking outdoor recreation, many options are available. For those who want to trek up north there’s Snowbowl, located in the San Francisco Peaks just north of Flagstaff. It’s a great place for skiers and snowboarders. Snowbowl has a myriad of varying levels of courses for both skiers and snowboarders. The price for a day pass is $46 and half day passes go for $36.
Many camping sites are open during the winter season and cost very little per day. The Chiricahua Mountains are well-known for their gorgeous rock formations and scenic hiking trails, located in Southern Arizona. It normally snows between November and March, so be sure to dress warm.
Camping in Prescott and Payson are also good choices and offer many additional recreational activities such as hiking and fishing. Locally, there’s plenty to engage in for holiday fun.
For a twist on the traditional holiday activities, there is the hilarious comedy act “Sister’s Christmas Catechism: The Mystery of the Magi’s Gold”, by the same woman who is known for “Late Nite Catechism”. The event takes place at Theater 4301 and times vary. Tickets are $38 for reserved seating and are available online through tickets.com.
Those who are low on extra cash this season also have options to enjoy the holidays.
ASU’s Symphony Orchestra and Choral Union is performing many holiday concerts at the Gammage Auditorium that are free to the public.Volunteering during is a great way to help those less fortunate to enjoy the holidays as well. Organizations that are seeking help include St. Mary’s Food Bank, Habitat for Humanity, and Make-A-Wish Foundation.
