Safety Tips by Capt. Lynn Bray
MCC Certified Public Safety Officer
Seizure Victims
1. Call 911 or College Safety at (480) 461-7777
2. Stay calm.
3. Do not hold the person down or try to stop their movements.
4. Clear the area around the person of anything hard or sharp.
5. Time the seizures with your watch.
6. Loosen ties or anything around the neck that may make their breathing difficult.
7. Put something flat and soft under the person’s head, like a folded jacket.
8. Turn him or her gently onto one side. This will help keep their airways clear. Do not try to force their mouth open. Myth Buster: A person cannot swallow their tongue while having a seizure.
9. Do not attempt artificial respiration, except in the unlikely event that the person stops breathing after the seizure. If CPR is started, do chest compressions only.
10. Stay with the person until the seizure has stopped or relieved by medical personnel.
Oct. 22-29 Traffic Enforcement Summary:
