Spending money offers good, bad consequences
Every day purchases of some sort are made. Whether it be on gas, clothing, food, or rent for home or an apartment.
Clothes, make-up, rent, these are the things MCC Student Janine Willingham generally spends her money on. Among these items however, Willingham’s favorite things to purchase are clothes, and make-up.
Willingham explained that she goes “recreational shopping” at least twice a week, and loves to purchase name brand items such as Juicy Couture, Coach, and 7 For All Mankind.
Willingham reinforced her habit with saying “I buy what I like” and if it happens to be name brand than so be it.
Even though Willingham has a taste for expensive clothing, this doesn’t mean that she isn’t thrifty. Willingham also enjoys shopping at Ross for things like shirts and shoes.
On the other hand, MCC student Lance Robinson has a different idea of what he enjoys spending his money on.
Robinson explained that generally he spends his money on CD’s, food, guitar strings, and audio equipment. Robinson rarely goes shopping for clothes and prefers to buy shirts at places like concerts where band t-shirts are generally made out of Fruit of the Loom.
Even though Robinson hardly goes shopping for clothes he does make it a point to go CD shopping at least once of week. MCC student Brittany Dean also gave insight into what she spends her money on. Dean said that generally she spends her money on clothes, accessories, and make-up. Among Dean’s favorite designers are Chanel, Coach, 7 For All Mankind, and Joe’s Jeans.
Dean said that generally name brand clothing lasts a lot longer. She sees expensive clothing as “more of an investment” rather than just being frivolous with her money.
Along with Willingham, and Robinson, Dean also believes in putting herself on a budget so she can monitor her spending and make sure it does not get out of hand.
When all three students were asked how much they spend per month on things that want, but don’t necessarily need, they all came up with different answer.
Willingham said that she spends at least $400 per month on things she doesn’t necessarily need.
Robinson said that at least two thirds of the money he receives from his job per month, is spent on things he doesn’t really need.
Dean said that she spends around $250 a month on things she also doesn’t necessarily need.
Willingham said she spends money on clothing and make-up because it makes her happy.
Robinson ended with the thought that when people purchase things they enjoy it gives them a “temporarily high” and ultimately makes them feel good about themselves.
