Summer reading cures boredom
Although summer allows long, lazy days full of endless possibilities; many people will end up bored, desperate to find something to do.
Luckily, there is a variety of books coming out this summer that will engage any reader’s attention span.
For fiction fans, Marisha Pessl’s debut novel, “Special Topics in Calamity Physics,” is clever, “with a head full of literary, philsophical, scientific and cinematic knowledge.”
“A good light book to read at the beach,” according to Yvette Roeder from Changing Hands Bookstore, is “Shopaholic & Baby” by Sophie Kinsella.
“Shopaholic & Baby” is a story about Becky Brandon who is preganat and finds that shopping cures her morning sickness. Other events happen to her along the way that make her second guess her marriage.
Anyone who is interested in reading grand novels based on historical research should try “The Last Empress” by Anchee Min.
“The Last Empress” is the story of a dramatic transition of the main character Orchid from a strong-willed young woman to a wise, politically savvy leader who ruled China for more than four decades.
For the sports fan, in “Opening Day: The Story of Jackie Robinson’s First Season,” author Jonathan Eig tells the true story behind “the national pastime’s most sacred myth.”
Anyone who is a fan of murder mysteries should pick up a copy of “Mistress of the Art of Death” by Ariana Franklin.
In medieval Cambridge, England, four children have been murdered and the crimes are immediately blamed on the Jewish community, taken as evidence that Jews sacrifice Christian children in ceremonies.

The final Harry Potter book is sure to bring about many surprises as well as a memorable ending for the beloved Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger.
