What are some tips for ordering equipment?
1.) Determine what equipment you will need.
2.) Establish what equipment is currently in classroom. Please physically check room or call our main number.
3.) To place your AV equipment order call (480) 461-7687. Please have the Room Number, Delivery Time, and Pickup Time when ready to place the order.
4.) Orders should be placed at least 24hrs in advance. We are not in the policy of placing 'Standing Orders' (orders for an entire semester). Please speak with your department about installing new equipment permanently in classrooms, if you require it for the entire semester.
5.) After your order is placed with Media Services it will be entered into our database and delivered to your classroom at the time specified. Occasionally we receive a number of orders, in which case, we deliver on a first ordered, first served basis.

What is PowerPoint, and how do I show it on the big screen?

Powerpoint is a computer program used for dynamic presentations. A Powerpoint presentation may have text, video, audio, animations, or even link to websites. In order to display a Powerpoint presentation on the big screen, you must utilize a LCD projector. If your presentation is saved to disk or cdrom, you will also need to arrange for a computer to be in the classroom, and hooked into the projector. If the presenter is supplying a laptop, then it must be hooked into the projector (see below).

How do I hook my Laptop Computer up to the big screen?

In most classrooms with an existing LCD projector mounted to the ceiling, it is possible to hook up your personal Laptop up to the projection system. The hookups to make this possible are located around the perimeter of the classroom and will look similar to the picture below.

In addition you will also need a VGA Cable. (see image below)Once you have located the LCD projector, the laptop, the vga cable, and the wall outlet, please proceed to the following steps.

1.) Plug in VGA cable and Power Cable.
First step is to plug your VGA cable into your laptop and into the wall port we located earlier. One side of the cable goes into your Laptop, and the other side goes into the wall port. Make sure the cables are seated firmly. It is not necessary that they are screwed down. It is also recommended that you plug the power cord for your Laptop in, because running off batteries can cause issues with signal strength.

2.) Power ON the LCD projector.
In most classrooms you will locate the projector's remote control, which is often mounted on the wall or at the desk. Then hold the ON button for three seconds. A small glow should emerge from the projector, indicating it is powered on. If you cannot locate the remote please contact us for assistance.

3.) Power ON the Laptop.
Plug your laptop into an active wall outlet and then fire it up.

4 .) Switch Inputs on the LCD Projector to RGB1 or to RGB2 with the remote control.
(Some projectors may say Computer 1 or Computer 2 instead of RGB)
Using the projector's remote control, depress the RGB input button. This tells the LCD projector to look for the VGA cable we just plugged into the wall. It's difficult to know if your room is set up to RGB1 or RGB2, so I encourage you to flip back and forth to find the appropriate input for your room.

At this point you may have an image on the screen! If so, congratulations you are ready to go! If not please proceed to step 5.

5.) Toggle your Laptop
Most Laptops must be told to send the image out through the VGA cable. To do this we must 'Toggle' the Laptop, which means holding the FUNCTION key on your laptop and tapping the corresponding F key until the image is on both screens. Every laptop's toggle key varies, so here's how to find out which F key to hit. When we say F key we are referring to the row of keys at the very top of your keypad. They are F1, F2 ,F3, F4...through F12. Some of those keys may have little pictures, or symbols near their number. We are looking for a F key that says, "LCD", "Projector", "CRT", or it may have an image of a "Screen", "Projector", or "Boxes".

Once you have located the appropriate button, HOLD DOWN the lower FUNCTION key, and TAP your corresponding F KEY. Your screen may flicker or turn black. This is good. Just repeat the same action until you have the image on both your projector, and your laptop. Please give the Laptop and the projector a few moments between toggles. If you still have no image, switch to the other RGB input on the projector's remote control and try to toggle again.

How do I adjust the volume for my room?
Here are some quick steps to locating the volume control in your classroom.

Search the room.
First do a quick visual scan, what you are looking for is any external speakers. The first place I check is sitting on top of the LCD projector. Next, I look near the front of the classroom by the desk. Thirdly, I search for a circular speaker on the ceiling. If you are unable to locate any external speakers, it is likely that the volume will be controlled from inside the projector. Here's a chart to help you assess your room.

Volume Location.
Speakers On top of LCD = Volume Control is a knob ON speakers.
Speakers at Front of Classroom = Volume Control is a knob ON speakers.
Speakers are circular and IN ceiling = Volume Control is a KNOB on wall.
No Visible Speakers = Adjust Volume using LCD projector's remote control.

What is the Broadband video system, and how do I use it?
The Broadband Video System is a way for students and instructors to view video tapes located in our Mesa Media Collection across the campus. If your location is setup for broadband use you will be able to use the telephone nearby, to control the playback of videos requested. In order to arrange for a video to be put on Broadband, please call our main number with the Title and Call Number and we will give you a Channel Number for your presentation. If line is not busy, then proceed with the keypad commands below.

1- Rewind
2- Play
3- Fast Forward
4- Stop
5- Pause
6- On Screen Display

It is okay to leave phone off receiver for duration of your video.

Why is it so important for me to turn off the LCD projector?
LCD projectors generate intense heat in order to maintain brightness, which, if left on for extended periods of time can cause internal damage to the machine. In addition, they have a limited bulb-life, so please turn them off when not in use. To shut down a projector, aim the remote control at the projector and hold the Off button for three seconds.
