Dual enrollment is an opportunity for eligible high school students to earn lower division college credit during regular school hours at their high school. Dual enrollment courses allow students to earn both high school and college credit for the same class. The credit earned may be used toward an Associates degree, as well as a Bachelor's degree at a transfer university.
Why is this a great idea? Opportunities!
Dual enrollment provides quality learning opportunities and helps high school students prepare for college. Students experience college level courses - the curriculum and texts have been approved, and the instructors certified by the Maricopa Community College District. These challenging courses enhance higher level cognitive skills and provide incentives to advance beyond the high school level. Best of all, transition from high school to college begins early and occurs conveniently in a familiar, comfortable environment.
What does it cost?
Only $55 per credit hour!
Tuition is more affordable at a community college than at a public or private college or university. Some high schools have scholarships available; talk to your high school counselor to see if you qualify.
Parents may qualify for tax credit through the Hope Scholarship Credit or the Lifetime Learning Credit as provided by the Taxpayer Relief Action of 1997.
