Updating Department Websites   February 2002 Edition

With the new server in place and much of the old MCC website being revamped and moved over, it is time to make updates to your individual department's home page.

If you are a department website maintanence person, this article involves you.  With the old MCC website, access to department home pages was given quite liberally so that multiple faculty and staff members could contribute to creating content.

When the new MCC web server was put into place, a copy of the most recently updated department homepages was moved over by the IT staff.  In addition to this, the directory structure was changed to reflect departments ID numbers in the SIS system.  For instance, the music department has the ID of d28 in SIS.  So the new URL to the Music homepage is http://www.mc.maricopa.edu/dept/d28.

Additionally, each department website directory structure has already been set up to include subdirectories for course prefixes.  Using the Music department as an example again:

There exists 4 different course prefixes for the Music Dept:  MHL, MTC, MUP, MUC. Consequently, there exists 4 additional folders inside the directory structure named mhl, mtc, mup, and muc.   The reason for this is to divide larger department websites and the task of maintaining them into smaller websites and tasks.  So there could in theory be one webmaster for each of these individual course suffixes.  It is up to your department on who and how the department website gets updated.

Along with the move to the new server,
all previous access to department websites was removed except for a few people.

This doesn't mean that you can't edit your department pages anymore, however it does mean that you will have to request access once again from the IT department.
To do this, have your department chair, send an email to the MCC Technology Helpdesk with the following information:

Your MCC Imap username
Your Department
The Suffixes you need access to.

If you have any questions, contact the MCC Technology Helpdesk.
