October 2002 Edition

ITAC   Eye - What?

Yes, one more acronym has arrived on campus, one more set of capital letters to keep track of: ITAC. The Informational Technology Advisory Council, formed in late April, 2002.

The mission of ITAC is to advise the Deans Council on matters of operational technology issues. ITAC will be charged by the Deans Council and report directly to the Deans Council. ITAC will be a sub-committee of the Teaching, Learning, Technology Roundtable (TLTR) and will communicate with the full TLTR Committee.

ITAC will also evaluate issues relevant to technology at the college, and make recommendations to the Deans. Topics for discussion will likely include issues related to technology support, technology equipment (infrastructure, hardware, and software), and technology operations. Department Chairs or Managers can submit issues for consideration by contacting the chair or one of the ITAC members.

The first charge to ITAC was to examine the issue of help desk support for students. A recommendation to expand technology related user-support services for students and employees at MCC was presented to the President and the Deans and approved last May, 2002. It can be viewed at: ITAC Technology Support Center Recommendation Document - (PDF format, 6 pages, 105kb). A working team has been formed to develop an operational plan for a Technology Support Center this fall.

For more information please visit the ITAC Web Page or contact the Chair, Chas Moore at 461-7686 or cmoore@mail.mc.maricopa.edu.
