Surf’s up and MCC, along with the other Maricopa colleges,
is ready to ride the next wave toward implementing the new Student
Information System (SIS). The District Project Leadership
team plus the Functional Teams (Student Financials, Financial
Aid, Curriculum and Advisement, Admissions & Recruitment,
and Campus Community) plan to complete the System Setup and Design
by the end of December. This will be followed by
college training during the spring, then deployment of the new
SIS during summer , 2005.
What does this mean to employees of MCC? It means we should
expect a variety of learning opportunities including new terminology,
new processes, and training centered on new functionally. It
means growth and development as individuals and as an institution. It
also means that we, both individually and collectively, will
be experiencing change.
Change will affect us in different ways. Our thoughts
will either cause us to resist or embrace the change. Change
may utilize skills and behaviors in different ways. Change
may be the result of something positive and provide the benefit
of new challenges. People are a large part of a successful
change. We should realize that change is not trouble free;
however, it shows that something significant is happening.
Remember, managing a major change is always a discovery process. Sometimes
not all the answers are apparent. Often our broad overall
plan becomes clear and the gaps fill as time goes by and circumstances
develop. A wave crashing to the shore is synonymous with
change – at first it is a powerful force that seems out
of control. Yet as the wave washes upon the shore, it fills
the nooks and crannies of the beach, creating tidal pools each
with its own existence and support. Ride the wave!
“Things will get better – despite our efforts to
improve them.” Will Rogers
