Accreditation, the Self-Study,
& the Criteria Dr. Cecilia
Lopez, staff liaison from the Higher Learning Commission
of the North Central Association, provided an overview
of accreditation history, the purpose of the self study,
and the new accreditation criteria. This was the first
meeting of the full self-study committee.

MCCs Self Study Meeting
highlights focused on the importance of the self study,
characteristics of an effective study, and the development
of our self-study goals.

We Shall Overcome: Our
Self-Study Game Plan Results
from the February 28th goals activity were shared with
the committee; members provided feedback and the statements
were finalized. Work related to the interpretations of
the criteria and components was discussed. There were
also reports on accomplishments, comments from members
who attended the HLC Annual Conference in Chicago, and
discussions about summer work schedules.

Looking for Waldo: Identifying,
Locating, and Evaluating Evidence
The focus of this meeting was to better understand the
concept of evidence. Definitions, characteristics,
sources, and procedures for identifying evidence were
discussed. Logistics and strategies for approaching the
task were also addressed and demonstrated.

Rounding up the Evidence
The meeting addressed a number of self-study updates including
an overview of the data collection activities and some
highlights from the college-wide Strategic Conversations.
Spring 2004 plans as well as committee tasks were also

Learning Commission of the North Central Association,
discussed the process for conducting an accreditation

topics included the recommended decision to postpone MCC's
Request for an Institutional Change, the status of the
self-study report, and initial plans for the visit. Ideas
for building college-wide awareness were also discussed.

addressed the committee and congratulated the members
for the quality of their work. Overviews of the self-study
report, the college-wide feedback timeline, and the self-study
website were also presented.

MCC's 2005 Self-Study Report was distributed to committee
members and details for creating the resource room were
discussed. An overview of a typical visit, the role
