Subject: Self Study FAQ
In December 2002, MCC officially
began the accreditation self study. The self study is the precursor to
a campus visit by a team of consultant-evaluators. In order to better
inform everyone about accreditation, the self study and the upcoming
visit, regular emails will be sent to answer frequently asked
questions.
- Who accredits Mesa Community College?
- MCC's accrediting agency used to be referred to as The North
Central Association (NCA). It is now known as the Higher Learning
Commission (HLC) of the North Central Association.
- Is accreditation required for colleges and universities?
- Accreditation is required of all higher education institutions that
wish to receive federal and state financial aid dollars, provide
students transferable academic credit, receive grants and federal
funds for specific programs and recruit quality students and faculty.
- How often does MCC go through the accreditation process?
- Every ten years.
- How many colleges and universities are accredited by HLC?
- MCC is one of over 1,000 college and universities in 19 states accredited by HLC.
Look for more information about the self study in the days and weeks ahead. |
