Subject: Self Study FAQ

MCC has been engaged in a college-wide self study for more than two years. Below are responses to two frequently asked questions about the self-study process. More FAQs will be sent in the near future.
What exactly is a self study?
Colleges conduct a self study in order to receive continued accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). The self study is a two-year process and revolves around three extremely important questions: Are we doing what we say we are doing? What are our strengths and our challenges? How can we position ourselves for the future?
What is the purpose of the self study?
The self study is a voluntary peer review process that provides colleges with the impetus to critically evaluate their purposes and whether those purposes are being achieved. The accreditation process culminates with the publication of a self-study report and a campus visit by a team of consultant-evaluators.
The self-study report is available online at http://www.mc.maricopa.edu/selfstudy/selfstudy_report.html.

The campus visit is scheduled for March 7-9, 2005.
