Subject: Self Study FAQ
Now that the self-study report is completed, some people may be
wondering how the process unfolded. Below are answers to a few
recently asked questions about the self-study process.
- What were the goals of MCC’s self-study?
- The self-study committee developed five major goals: achieving
continued accreditation, confirming our mission, documenting strengths
and challenges, developing a sense of community and positioning the
college for the future.
- I heard that college-wide committees were formed for MCC’s
self-study process. How many committees were formed and what was the
purpose of each committee?
- The full self-study committee consisted of more than 80 individuals
representing all employee groups from both our Southern and Dobson and
Red Mountain campuses. MCC students and members of our community also
participated. Five committees focused on one of the accreditation
criteria set forth by the HLC, and three committees worked on distance
learning, operational indicators, and communications/arrangements. You
can learn more about the committees by visiting the website at
http://www.mc.
maricopa.edu/selfstudy/committees/index.html.
- What types of activities did the committees do?
- Members of the criterion committees interpreted the HLC criteria in
relation to MCC's mission and sought examples of how the college
fulfills its purpose. They sorted through volumes of existing
college-wide documents and reports; synthesized department chair and
manager interviews; interpreted discussion group results; reviewed
information from college-wide strategic conversations; and examined
survey findings. They also wrote working papers which were
incorporated into the writing of our self-study report.
