Signing up for Classes

1. What is and how do I get a course approval?

A course approval is needed for any class that has a PR (prerequisite). A prerequisite means that there is a class required before taking the class you are signing up for. To get into this class you will need an advisors approval or department approval. If the prerequisite class was taken at MCC just bring the enrollment form to Advisement Services if it was taken somewhere else bring unofficial transcripts from that school.

2. How do you drop and add a class?

You can drop any class online. If you are in the class and you wait to drop the class after the deadline to withdraw without instructors signature you will need to get the instructors signature in the drop form. Please see the Academic Calendar to view deadlines for dropping and adding. All classes without prerequisites can be added online. If the class has a PR you will need to get an advisors approval on the add form.

3. What does TBA strand for?

To be announced

4. How do I find the hours or teacher for a TBA class?

To find the hours and professor teaching a TBA class call the department of the course. (EX: GBS - Business Department).

5. Is the course catalog or schedule of classes available online?

Visit the Online College Catalog page and the MCC Schedule of Classes

6. What do I do if the class I want to take is full?

The Biology department starts a waiting list through the department secretary. For all other departments you will want to wait until there is a purge (a date all students signed up for classes who have not paid will be dropped) and try to see if there are any openings.

7. What day does "R" mean on the schedule of classes?

Thursday

8. Where do I find the section number of a class?

It is located on the left-hand side of the page on the online schedule listing and in the paper schedule.

9. Where can I find an Academic Calendar with semester start dates and withdrawal deadlines?

Maricopa Community Colleges Online Academic Calendar

10. What is an override?

An override allows a student to enroll in a closed class section. Overrides can only be given at the discretion of the instructor and are only available through the academic department.
