Mesa Men Notch 3rd At Nationals

Darton and Tyler hold off T'Birds

AA at NJCAAs

Head Coach John Guerrero's squad had to battle inclement weather, even though the NJCAA's were held at Palm Valley Golf Course in Goodyear, Arizona, as well as fatigue, but notched a solid 3rd- place finish at Nationals.
"These golfers are really something special and it has been some time since Mesa has had such a solid core of young men representing their golf team," says Guerrero.
The team finished 3rd (+33), and only 13 strokes off the D2 Champs, Tyler Community College, out of Texas.
A final round 299 wasn't good enough to overtake Darton and Tyler, but Mesa was persistent and extremely resilient over the course of the four-day, oft-delayed event.
The team tallied a four-day total of 1185 (287-298-301-299), led by 5th- place overall finisher Andrew Augustyniak's (+4) 292 (73-72-77-70).
Austin Stone finished tied for 9th overall with a final (+6) 294 (71-77-73-73).
Brent Hobbs finsihed 12th overall with a (+7) 295 (71-71-74-79).
Corey Pike finished tied for 35th with a (+17) 305 (73-78-77-77).
Jake Golembiewski rounded out the Mesa team with a (+22) 310 (72-80-79-79).
A team entirely comprised of freshman, expect Mesa Men's Golf to be a factor at Nationals in 2009.
