Employment On-Campus

Students are eligible to work on campus as long as you are in status. You may begin working your first semester for 20 hours a week ONLY. Students will need to apply for a Social Security Number (SSN) to begin working on campus. In order to qualify for a SSN number you must have a student visa. If you have applied for a change of status from B1/B2 Perspective Visitor visa , you do not qualify for SSN until you have received official notification of change of status from USCIS. Please visit the International Office for more information on how to obtain a SSN card.

International students are eligible to apply for "tax BUDGET" jobs ONLY. MCC jobs are posted on the internet. Please review the instructions below for searching for on-campus jobs on the internet. You must have an email account (see My MCC). There are no jobs specifically for international students. You must apply for positions just as an American student would by submitting an application and interviewing. If you have concerns regarding your interviewing skills, please make an appointment with Ron Gaschler (480) 461-7430 in the Career Center for assistance.

SEARCHING FOR ON-CAMPUS JOBS

All on-campus jobs (including Tax Budget) are posted on Maricopa Recruiter, Mesa Community College's Internet-based job placement system. Any MCC international student is eligible to apply for a Tax Budget position if you have maintained status by enrolling and completing 12 credit hours a semester and not working off campus without proper INS employment authorization.

Procedure to search for on-campus jobs:

1.

Go to http://www.collegecentral.com/mesa/ . Before you use this service, you must first have an e-mail address (links to free e-mail services are available on the Maricopa Recruiter web site).
2. Click on "Look for Job".
3. If this is your first time using Maricopa Recruiter, register as an applicant.
4.

When you are completing the registration form, all Federal Work Study and Tax Budget students MUST indicate at "Select the type of Job applicant that applies to you" that you are a "Current Maricopa Student on Work-Study". If you don't, you will not be able to view the work-study openings.
5.

Once you fill out the registration form and click on "I agree", you will be given a User ID on the next screen. You may want to write this down, along with the password you selected, as you will need these the next time you want to log into Maricopa Recruiter. Please make sure the position is NOT identified as College Work Study or FWS.
6. Now you may begin to search for jobs. Click on the button that says "Jobs".
7.

At the "Job Category" search, select "Job Posting for Federal Work-Study and Budget Positions". Click on Search.
8.

On the left side of your screen, click on the folder next to Mesa Community College to open it. You will see the job openings listed under the folder. Click on a title you are interested in. This will bring the job information to the right side of the screen.
9. If you are interested in a position, click on the button next to "Apply to this job".
10.

This website has other resources that are very useful. Students are encourage to spend some time browsing and use the services offered.
11. The final step is to GO TO THE DEPARTMENT AND SEE THE SUPERVISOR TO APPLY.
12. If you are hired, go to Career/Re-Entry to complete the necessary paperwork.

If you have any questions, visit the Job Placement Office (bldg. 36) for assistance or some in the International Education Office (bldg. 41) can try to assist you as well.
