Charles (Bo) Colbert

Charles “Bo” Colbert is the Director of the American Indian Center at Mesa Community College. He is in his third year at MCC.

Prior to coming to MCC, Dr. Colbert was with the American Indian Studies Program at Arizona State University. He is one of the founding members of the AIS program at ASU, having been with the program from 1996-2004.

He is an enrolled member of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation in Oklahoma. Bo received his Bachelors Degree in Physical Education and Recreation from Northeastern Oklahoma State University, a Masters Degree in Education (1978) and Doctor of Education Degree from Arizona State University in 1999.

His research focus is on the college-going experience and retention theories regarding American Indian/Alaska Native students in higher education. Dr. Colbert also has grounded experience in education for American Indians, serving as a teacher, principal, Title IV Indian Education Act consultant, and tribal education administrator.
