Since the construction of the student Kirk Center in the early 1970’s, the facility has experienced a number of modifications, upgrades and increase in projected use and traffic. These migrations from the original design and construction have not only caused severe loads on electrical, and other supporting utility infrastructure, but has also reduced the amount of space for interaction and student involvement.
Currently the Jinnett B. Kirk Student Center built a 33,977+ square foot facility serves as a multifunctional building that houses student, community and district activities throughout the year. The location of the Kirk Center provides a natural avenue for information and pathway to other locations and departments on campus with an estimated foot traffic.
The design of the Kirk Center includes a hidden dining facility, a large conference center that seats 300+, bathrooms and a large corridor that connects conference rooms on the lower level and administrative services on the upper level. The signage needs improving and the overall traffic flow is not designed for maximum efficiency.
