Instructions
to Join:
Congratulations! As a result of your
academic standing at
Mesa
Community
College
, you have been invited to join
the Omicron Beta Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, the International Honor Society of the Two-Year College for men and women. The requirements for membership in Phi Theta
Kappa are stringent. In order to be
eligible, a student must have accumulated a minimum of 12 credit hours (100
level or above) toward a degree at MCC prior to induction with a cumulative GPA
of 3.5 or better.
If
you have already joined Phi Theta Kappa, there is no need to join again. Please consider learning about the exciting
opportunities we have in store and becoming an enhanced member. We are in the process of establishing
leadership positions for this academic year and would like to get you involved!
If you are interested in applying
for membership in Phi Theta Kappa, please complete the following steps:
- Read this
entire packet. Most of your
questions will be addressed in the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Handbook available at our department offices, or via the Omicron Beta
Chapter website at www.mc.maricopa.edu/organizations/student/ptk
- If,
after you read our information and you still have questions, please write
to Duane D. Oakes at
oakes@mail.mc.maricopa.edu
- Attend
an optional hour long Phi Theta Kappa Informational Orientation Meeting:
at the Southern and Dobson Campus OR at the Red Mountain
Campus.
- Complete the Chapter Membership Application, enclosed
in this packet.
- Write a
$67.00 check or money order made payable to “Phi Theta Kappa – Omicron
Beta Chapter.” You can also pay for
your fees with credit/debit card or cash by visiting the MCC Cashiers
Office and depositing funds into account number 910-250-915130-48090. Be sure to include the paper receipt
with your packet as proof of payment.
- Return the following to the Center for
Service-Learning Office Coordinator by semester deadline (contact
the office for the current deadline at 480-461-7393).

If you
mail your application, it must arrive by the same deadline!
ABSOLUTELY
NO APPLICATIONS WILL BE PROCESSED AFTER THE SEMESTER DEADLINE
- We would like to recognize your academic
achievements at an induction
ceremony. The ceremony will last
about 2 hours and provides additional background information about the
organization for new members who would like to become active. Light refreshments will
be served and dress is semi-formal. For further information and
the date of the upcoming ceremony, you can contact Duane D. Oakes at
461-7214, Dawn Russell at 461-7763 or Erika Wren at 461-7243. All new members will receive an
invitation to attend this event after the semester deadline. Attendance at the formal induction
ceremony at MCC is NOT required, but encouraged.
- Watch the mail. Once
your membership has been processed after the semester
deadline, your Phi Theta Kappa membership packet will be mailed from the
Phi Theta Kappa International Headquarters to the address you
provide. Please allow 4-6 weeks for
this mailing.
NOTE: Your invitation to the Induction Ceremony is the only confirmation you
will receive regarding your chapter membership. All eligible submissions will be processed.
