Based in Amman, Jordan (one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world), this program provides firsthand insight into a modern Middle Eastern state grappling with regional conflict, political responsibility, and social change. Sharing borders with Syria, Israel, and Saudi Arabia, this moderate Arab country is a regional hub for education, communications, transportation, tourism, and investment.
Students will have the opportunity to experience the Arabic culture, history, and language while staying in the heart of the Arab world: Amman, Jordan.
Your Middle-eastern adventure will afford you the opportunity to learn the Arabic language as it is practiced in real life situations, explore archaeology by visiting several ancient sites, and develop your writing skills in English as you reflect on your experiences.
The estimated cost above includes transportation from Queen Alia International Airport to Al Manar Hotel and transportation from Al Manar Hotel to Queen Alia International Airport as well as transportation for all the scheduled field trips.
Students will be served buffet breakfast, lunch, and dinner at the two hotels and all the sites on the field trips.
Educational excursions to historical sites such as Petra (a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one the New 7 Wonders of the World); the Citadel Hill (Rabbath Ammon); Mount Nebo; Modaba Mosaic Map; the Dead Sea; the Baptismal Site of Jesus Christ; Greco-Roman cities Jerash (Gerasa) and Um Qays (Gadara); Medieval Islamic and Crusader castles, Ajloun and Kerak; and to modern parts of Amman, including Downtown, Abdoun, and King Abdullah Mosque.
Every two students will be sharing one room. Students will be staying in Amman at Al Manar Hotel (for 27 nights), where instruction will also take place. (They will spend one night at Edom Hotel in Petra). Rooms are equipped with satellite TV, free wireless internet, and international direct dial telephone (for a fee). The hotel has 24/7 room service, same-day laundry, a cafe, a swimming pool, and a safety deposit box.
