Opening a file that is on your Data Disk

open.jpg (8881 bytes)     Click the mouse arrow on the File command on the Menu bar. When this pull-down menu appears, select Open. A window will appear in the middle of your screen. Select the drive (a: would be your data disk; c: would be the hard disk on the laptop computer), and the files will be listed on the left side. Select the file you want to open with the mouse, then select OK. That file will appear in the Word screen for you to edit.

Note: Word will only show documents from your disk that have the .doc extension after the file name (Word automatically puts this extension on a file written in its editor when it is saved), unless you have put another extension on the file. To see any documents that do not have .doc after the name, when in the Open screen, select List of Files at the bottom of the window and change the option to all files. The left window will then list all the files that are on your disk.
