The Toolbar, located directly below the menu bar, contains icons that are shortcuts to commands inside the different menus on the menu bar. Clicking the mouse arrow on any of these icons will give commands directing Word to complete certain chores that are commonly used. Remember, more commands than appear on the Toolbar are inside the Menu Bar.
The Ruler under the toolbar indicates where your margins and tabs are located in your document. The margins are defaulted to the right and left margin that the MLA stylesheet uses. No adjustments need to be made to these margins. The three little brackets at each end of the ruler are the left margin and indent paragraph margin markers, and the right margin. If you drag these to a different position on the ruler, your margins change for any new text written (below the cursor). To change the left margin of previously typed text, highlight the text and then drag these brackets to a new position. When you drag this margin, only one bracket will move at a time.
