Childhood Hideaway Journal Entry

As children, we all had some private place where we could be alone with our thoughts and feelings. It may have even been an imaginary place that we created in our minds. In this journal entry, you need to write about a secret place you had as a child.

The following is a sample journal entry on a childhood hideaway.

My Secret Place

I think all children like and need to have their own special place where they can be alone to dream their special dreams or to get away from annoying siblings etc. Far at the back corner of the backyard of my house, with sunrays blocked by an orange tree was my special place. It was one of the few places in the backyard that actually had grass growing. A fence partially closed two sides while the darkness of the shade and the trees blocking the view to the house closed the other sides.

Out there, I could get away from it all. If my parents had once again won a heated debate or I wanted the world to stop just for a few moments, that was the place where it would happen. Out there, I could grasp a tighter hold onto my thoughts; I could get the problems of a sixth grader sorted out. I was an avid reader, sometimes, I just liked to take a book with me and spend a quiet, peaceful time losing myself into the fantasy of fiction. If my parents were searching for me, I could lay on the ground with the brown, tall grass hiding me from view. Sometimes I think they would pretend that they could not see me just to make me happy.

With the neighbors’ place right next to me, some animals often employed themselves into helping me out. The neighbors' sheep would come as close as they could to me along with some chickens or wild cats. The chickens were of not much use for they always ran away, and the cats were more of a pest than a help; but the sheep somehow offered valuable insight to problems and situations. They would come close enough to where I could feed them and pet them; or I could just watch them go about their daily routine of eating and sleeping.

Once in a while, I would welcome my best friend to spend some time with me in my special place, but most of the time, I preferred to spend my time there alone. I resented times when the weather was too bad for me to spend time outside, and sometimes I wanted to stay home from school just to be in my special place. Of course, my mother would not let me do this, but I sure tried to talk her into it. I spent many hours in my secret hideaway, and most of them were filled with pleasure.

Good luck and have fun with your Childhood Hideaway journal entry.
