General Policies

Quizzes

All quizzes are to taken by the assigned date via the Internet. These are timed quizzes. Points are docked if you take more than the allotted time. You can only view a particular quiz one time. Thus when you open a quiz, you must take the quiz at that time. If you do not take the test by the deadline, there is a 10 percent per late day penalty.

Exams

For students who live in the greater Phoenix area, a timed midterm and a final exam must be taken in person on the Mesa Community College Southern and Dobson campus. These two-hour exams are proctored by Bio 100 online faculty. They are available at the dates/times indicated on the course calendar. Each exam is available on at least two different dates.

Students who do not live in the greater Phoenix area must make prior arrangements with their instructor regarding the identity of the proctor and the site of the examination. A picture ID of the student will be shown to the proctor at this time.

Online Discussion

Points for participation in the online class discussion (bulletin board) cannot be made up after the week for that particular unit has passed.

Withdrawal

It is the responsibility of the student to consult the calendar and to keep up with all assignments, discussion topics, quizzes, and exams. Students who do not communicate with the instructor for two consecutive weeks will be automatically dropped from the class with the grade they have earned up to that point. Any missed assignments will be averaged in with a grade of "0". It is up to the student to contact the instructor or the admissions office and make the necessary arrangements.

Student Success

Not everyone is ready to take biology via the Internet. It is very different from the traditional classroom in that it requires that you be self-motivated and self-directed. You will need to take responsibility for your own learning. Your success will depend upon you keeping up with the assignments.

Special Needs

The instructor is willing to make any reasonable accomodations for disabilities. Students to whom this applies should make an appointment with the instructor to discuss specific adaptations. You may also call Mesa Community College Special Services at (480) 461-7447 for additional assistance.

Academic Misconduct

Each of you is responsible for your own work. Cheating and plagiarism will be subject to disciplinary action. Please see the Mesa Community College Handbook for more specific information.

Change of Address
It is essential that the instructor be notified of any changes in address, e-mail, etc. immediately. This may be done by emailing the instructor, calling the instructor at (480) 461-7703, or calling the Biology office at (480) 461-7115.
