Overview for Lab Assignments
  1. For the lab assignments use the Illustrated Series, Microsoft Office 2007 Windows XP Edition textbook.
  2. Each application covered in the textbook is presented in separate sections.
  3. Each section includes multiple Units, such as A and B.
  4. The page numbers begin at one for each section, and continue sequentially through the Units.
  5. Units present various related skills on two facing pages, with step-by-step instructions on the left side, and a screen image on the right.

  6. At the beginning of most Units students are instructed to create a new document or open an existing document from the downloaded data files.
  7. If the files have not been downloaded yet, you need to complete: Download Data Files Lab. Ask your instructor if you need assistance downloading the files.
  8. Each Unit consists detailed instructions for the tasks that must be completed.
  9. Students will be submitting the final version of the document after completing all of the required tasks in the Unit.
  10. In order to get to the final version, students need to start at beginning of the Unit and complete all of the required tasks referenced in the page numbers listed below.
  11. The final version of the document that should be submitted is referenced by the 2nd page number listed after each required document.
 
  1. Complete Windows XP, Unit A: Getting Started with Windows (p1-9, 16, and 18 steps 2 and 3)
    • Students working on an MCC computer, skip pages 10-15, and on page18 skip steps 1, 4-6.
    • Security settings at MCC prevent students from changing system configurations :-(

  2. Complete Windows XP, Unit B: Understanding File Management (p25-44)
    To match the instructions in the lab book as close as possible, it is best
    to work within the the following folder: \CIS105\Windows XP\Unit B\
    On page 26, step 5 and 6, save Memo.rtf in \CIS105\Windows XP\Unit B\Memo.rtf
    On page 28, step 6, save Logo.bmp in \CIS105\Windows XP\Unit B\Logo.bmp
    On page 36, step 6, make new folder as \CIS105\Windows XP\Unit B\Windows XP Practice\

    After completing all of the lesson in Unit B, students will have two files to submit.
    Submit the following files:
    CIS105\Windows XP\Unit B\Windows XP Practice\Brochure\Memo.rtf
    CIS105\Windows XP\Unit B\Windows XP Practice\Brochure\Logo.bmp

Submitting Your Assignment:
  • Upload each file (2 total) to Blackboard. Do not send through email.
  • Submit assignment after uploading all files.
