Mesa Community College

World Trade Institute

Global business is developing on a fast-track.  U.S. trade representative Robert B. Zoellick indicates that "97% of America's exporters have fewer than 500 employees, and 65% have fewer than 20 employees." International business is within the reach of small business enterprise, and the large companies that make up the top 3% need qualified people to help them expand their multi-national efforts.

Mesa Community College takes pride in presenting its World Trade Institute.  Students are welcome to pursue selected courses to meet business or personal needs with regard to technical aspects of international trade.  They are also encouraged to participate in the two programs of study--one a certificate in Import/Export Trade, the other an associate degree in International Business.  To support the program, Mesa's college  library continues to increase it's holdings of international videos and print resources, including the National Trade Data Bank, which is available through the second-floor computers.

The Certificate in Import/Export Trade is intended for persons already in a business setting or already have another college degree that have a desire to expand into international business.  The certificate contains courses (21-23 college credits) that focus on practical applications needed for international trade activities.

The Associate of Applied Science in International Business is designed to meet the needs of the traditional college student by providing survey courses to establish a base of business knowledge in economics, culture, finance, and law.   A student completing this program will take 29 business core credits, approximately 15 international-specific credits, and approximately 30 credits of general education courses to be  eligible for an Associate of Applied Science in International Business.  This degree is directly transferable to a number of 4-year institutions in the Phoenix area, including ASU West and ASU Polytechnic.  ASU West has several courses in Global Business Management to round-out your international program.  MCC's Associate Degree serves as the first two years of ASU's Bachelor of Applied Science Degree.

The Associate of Applied Science in Organizational Leadership is also an option for the international business student.  It provides more flexibility and allows the student to inject a larger number of  IBS classes and language courses into his/her program.

Most Teachers  for the program are practicing professionals in the area of the course they teach.  For example:  International Financial Management (IBS140) is taught by an International Finance Manager, U.S. Customs & Export Regulations (IBS123) is taught by a certified customs official, and International Marketing Management (IBS118) is taught by a practicing international marketing consultant.
