Before You Begin GBS233
Before you begin the course, you must verify that you have available and/or can do the following:

1) Obviously, you need a computer with a modem and an Internet provider that allows you to effectively view this course.

2) It is also important that you are reasonably proficient with your computer. It is very helpful to know your keyboard by touch. If you want to increase your speed, Mesa Community College (or perhaps others) offers a one-credit open-entry, open-exit course in keyboarding.  The course number is BPC111AA.

3) In addition, you must download a software product called Macromedia Shockwave in order to view some short videographics that are included in most of the lessons to enhance your learning of each topic.  To  download it from the Macromedia website, click on this link:  http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/

4) Since the course requires you to submit two oral presentations via videotape, you must have access to a VHS video camera. Those students without one usually borrow a friend’s camera, rent one or get permission to do their recording at a studio.

5) During the lessons in this course you will be required to read portions of the textbook, Essentials of Business Communication, by Mary Ellen Guffey, and published by South-Western.
