       Punctuation [effective comma use, correct spacing after punctuation, correct capitalization]

       Word Choice [word is needed, word expresses thought clearly, simple vs. complex, positive approach]

3. Paragraph Organization:

      Good Transition Between Thoughts [transition words used within a paragraph, transition sentence from one paragraph to next]

4. Message Clarity:

       Major Idea Understood [message contains all that is needed for action, expressed in clear, concise language]

       Format and Organization [body looks centered, margins frame letter well, proper spacing for headings/closings]

5. Tone:

      Friendly and Positive [goodwill opening and closing, establishes positive impression]

       Used "You" Attitude [avoid excessive use of "I", approaches topic from reader’s point-of-view]
