Memorandum (Memo) Format

                                                                               Format Guide

Within a company, written messages remove the formal trappings of a letter, simplify the components and place them in one spot. The messages tend to be more formal, but they still use many of the same writing guidelines as letters (i.e. clear, concise, and friendly).

Because interoffice memos are delivered within a single company, they don’t require an inside address unless the company is so complex that a mailing designation must be included. They will require a margin (1 to 1-1/2 inches) to frame the letter.
