Pete Vivona is a Professor of Trombone Emeritus from Northern Arizona University where he retired in May 2006. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in trombone performance from the Eastman School of Music. Dr. Vivona has a professional background as a trombonist in the New York City area including a two-year stint with the famed Kai Winding Septet, as well as with several name big bands. He has previously held jazz studies and low brass positions at the University of Nebraska at Omaha and Eastern Illinois University and has served as state unit president of the International Association of Jazz Educators in Nebraska, Illinois, and Arizona.
Dr. Vivona served as Director of Jazz Studies at Northern Arizona University from 1984 to 1997 when he turned the jazz program over to present director, Joel Di Bartolo due to an overload in the applied trombone studio. His jazz ensembles received international recognition through performances at jazz festivals and the production of 3 CD recordings which all received rave reviews in Downbeat
Magazine. His NAU Jazz Ensemble performed at the 1995 IAJE International Conference in Anaheim, CA. Dr. Vivona is a clinician for the Yamaha Musical Instrument Company. |
